Waves and Points is an interactive work for free-bass accordion, computer and multi-channel sound projection. It brings together two streams in Eagle’s creative work: solo interactive compositions and multi-channel sonic art works and installations. Transforming the accordion sonorities and musical gestures through live processing is a main focus of the work. Microphones are placed close to the left and right sides of the instrument to enhance the spatial/stereo effect of the two chambers and to highlight many of the accordion sounds that normally aren’t heard. In performance this material, along with prepared soundfiles based on accordion sounds, is then processed – harmonized, filtered, granulated, delayed – and spatialized through the surrounding eight or more loudspeakers. Stefan Hussong premièred the work in the 2011 Piano+ Festival at the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe, Germany. The composer participates in the performance by controlling and shaping the live electronics at the computer.
